This week on the blog, I’m sharing how I turned Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom into a living art lesson for my homeschooler. I focused on teaching perspective, not just by drawing at home, but by experiencing it firsthand in the park. Before the trip, I introduced key vocabulary like horizon line, vanishing point, foreground, and background using a free printable. Then I explained how Disney uses forced perspective to create the magic of Main Street. At the park, I took my time walking down Main Street with my daughter, asking thoughtful questions about what we were seeing and noticing the visual tricks Imagineers use to create depth. We also stopped by Crystal Arts to watch a glassblowing demonstration. Once we got home, I wrapped up the lesson by using a perspective grid sketchpad so she could draw her own version of what she experienced. This winter we kept running into the same problem—Blizzard Beach was at capacity almost every time we tried to go. It got me thinking about how Disney actually calculates capacity, especially in places like their massive wave pools. So naturally, I turned it into a homeschool lesson.
