With Liberty Square changing at Walt Disney World, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the stories that shaped our nation—and the ones we don’t hear often enough. The Peacemaker by Joseph Bruchac tells the powerful origin story of the Iroquois Confederacy, and we created a FREE printable to help you turn it into a meaningful summer unit.
Dive into the themes of unity, peace, and leadership—and bring deeper learning to your next Disney trip or your summer school days at home.

🎠5 shows. 1 park. A whole lot of learning!
We took our homeschool theater unit to the next level with a full day of live performances at Disney’s Hollywood Studios—Indiana Jones, Frozen, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and even Villains! ✨
We tied each show back to our lessons on storytelling, stagecraft, and Shakespeare (yes, Shakespeare!)—and made space for creative fun like stop-motion animation and script writing. This field trip was the perfect mix of education, imagination, and Disney magic.

It was 94 degrees before noon, so you know we were on the hunt for shade, water, and anything that didn’t feel like walking on the surface of the sun.
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, at EPCOT is our go-to spot when we need to cool off and still keep the day meaningful. It’s interactive, calming, and full of hidden moments that spark curiosity and joy. Plus, it feels like stepping into the heart of Moana’s story—without ever leaving Florida.
We made it part of our homeschool day and turned the heat into an opportunity for learning and connection.

Tom Sawyer Island is closing for good on July 7, and I’m feeling all kinds of things about it. This quiet corner of Magic Kingdom meant a lot to us—especially as homeschoolers who used it as a jumping-off point for literature and storytelling.
I created a Mark Twain activity packet inspired by the island, and now it feels like a way to keep a little piece of it with us.

Have you ever read a book that not only affirmed your approach to homeschooling, but also made you reflect on the kind of learner you used to be? That’s exactly what happened when I read How Children Learn by John Holt. His observations about curiosity, emotional safety, and the freedom to make mistakes felt like they were written for homeschool parents today.
This post is part book reflection, part personal story about how homeschooling can be just as healing for us as it is meaningful for our children.

I recently finished reading Rethinking School by Susan Wise Bauer, and it gave me the clarity I needed to think critically about how we approach education in our homeschool.
This book helped me explore how the school system was originally designed, why it does not work for every child, and what we as parents can do to support real learning. I wrote a full blog post review with five key takeaways and created a free printable parent worksheet to help you reflect and plan intentionally.

This week on the blog, I’m sharing how I turned Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom into a living art lesson for my homeschooler.
I focused on teaching perspective, not just by drawing at home, but by experiencing it firsthand in the park. Before the trip, I introduced key vocabulary like horizon line, vanishing point, foreground, and background using a free printable. Then I explained how Disney uses forced perspective to create the magic of Main Street.
At the park, I took my time walking down Main Street with my daughter, asking thoughtful questions about what we were seeing and noticing the visual tricks Imagineers use to create depth. We also stopped by Crystal Arts to watch a glassblowing demonstration. Once we got home, I wrapped up the lesson by using a perspective grid sketchpad so she could draw her own version of what she experienced.
If you’re a homeschool parent or simply looking for ways to make your Disney trip more meaningful, this is a great way to combine learning and adventure.

This winter we kept running into the same problem—Blizzard Beach was at capacity almost every time we tried to go. It got me thinking about how Disney actually calculates capacity, especially in places like their massive wave pools. So naturally, I turned it into a homeschool lesson.
I just posted a new printable: a real-world math activity all about Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. It covers area, volume, and capacity using the actual size of the parks’ wave pools, includes a QR code video on 3D measurement, and wraps it all up with metacognitive reflection questions and an answer key.
If you’re looking for a creative way to bring math into the parks this summer, this one’s for you. Link in bio or visit disneyhomeschool.com
